Luís Manuel Fernandes Rebouta, graduated in Physics in 1985, obtained the master degree in Nuclear Physics in 1989 and got the PhD in Solid State Physics in 1992, all at the University of Lisbon. He is Associate Professor in Minho University (UM) and member of the Physics Centre of UM. He has more than 20 years' experience in functional coatings research. The major activities have been focused in the synthesis and characterization of the different type of coatings, mainly deposited by reactive magnetron sputtering method, as for example, nanostructured superhard coatings, coatings for decorative applications, transparent and conductive coatings, coatings with photocatalystic properties, selective absorbers of solar radiation for high temperature application, optical coatings, etc. He has been also involved in other surface treatments and in the development of a nanocluster source in order to nucleate nanoparticles in a supersaturated gas.
